Wow. Well done CCP. Preventing people from coming back to your game must really padd that bottom line. How about you start using someone with brains for your economy planing instead of next quartal long term blind economists? There must be some people around who understand about this strange concept of long term.
With the whole economy in the gutter you are making the game more expensive to play. A freaking game!!! In what universe do you think that a game falls under necessary thing that people will suck it up? It's not food, it's fun but it's quite easy to entertain yourself in other cheaper ways.
I guess that you will change your mind once the bottom line gets hit. Might be too late but I guess you really want that vampire MMO so killing off eve is probably planed anyway.

Originally by: Poreuomai I think this change makes absolute sense. Skill training is part of the game - if you don't pay then you don't play.
How about they just do pay for skills? After all you pay you play. What is the difference? And imagine what all those 3 rich peeps playing eve would do for their bottom line. Of course they would be broke month after when anyone whos not rich quits but I'm sure that kind of long term outlook is far outside CCPs skills. Guess they should have trained it when they had subscribers.

People running 'ghost accounts' do not. They shouldn't benefit therefore!
People running 'ghost accounts' do indeed pay. Just not 100% of the time. If someone is paying for only 3 months out of every 6, they're still paying. Ghost Training isn't free, merely cheaper.
So you pay for 3 months and you get 3 months training (and playing time). makes sense. You don't pay for 3 months and you get nothing in return. seems reasonable/(TANSTAAFL)
So, overall, what is wrong with that?
If it had always been this way, golden. What we had in ghost training was a relatively unique feature that appealed to the casual player who LIKES to take breaks from Eve and come back to a slightly advanced skill.
The feature (which was apparently massively unfair to CCP, fellate them some more please) was a low cost issue that actively encouraged part-time players to keep more accounts and come back when they did unsubscribe- some of us DO unsubscribe regularly.
There's no earthly reason to take it away and not expect a backlash from those of us who have, right or wrong, grown to expect it.
Sad truth is, there will be an impact on the bottom line now and all new players will just accept that this is the way it is. It's probably good business in the long run, but it shows VERY clearly that CCP's motivations continue to be antithetical to pleasing the playerbase.
I somehow doubt it. Check the numbers for the servers. When was the last time we were above 30k ever day? This is a selling feature for eve. Cutting them away is just bad. They might see a small increase in short term but not in the long term. EVE is already tiny in comparison with others and making it less appealing is not the way to improve your bottom line.

ROFL. I would like to see the BS you can come up with. At least say what it is. Grab for short term money before you sink with the rest of the iceland (or UK confiscates your servers). This is going to be same dev blog like the ******ed explanation for the GTC price hike. Industry standard where eve is alone at that price point. Some standards. I'm sure you learned that one from microsoft that you seem to like a lot.
****ing off your customers when economy is going down the drain is a bad thing. Even you guys should be able to understand that.

Originally by: Annaphera I think the people that are whining about this need to get a grip. Please. Everyone saying that they are going to go to other games needs to stop and ask whether those other games are going to allow them to advance without paying for an account. If the answer is no, then stop acting like CCP is some kind of ogre for asking you to actually pay for a sub to advance your character. You still advance while you are offline, so what's the big issue?
I mean, really. A service company that expects you to PAY if you want to use their service. How shocking!
And in what game does it take such a ass long time to reach the end game? What do you think would be effect on WOW if getting to level 60 (or whatever is highest) took 1,5 years?
The service company built up a system where this kind of thing is important as people burn out, don't have time, don't have mone, or something else. This was a way to get them to come back.
Oh well the new competitors are arriving and hopefully some of them will look at EVE and how CCP killed it off and learn. After all it's survival of the fittest and not most short sighted one.

No, without the ghost training the 'subscription break' will become 'quitting the game and playing something else' instead. Being able to come back to new skills and new ships to fly because of it is one of the big reasons people resub in the first place.
Cause that Level 5 BS skill helps you fly sooooo many more ships and do sooooo many more things than BS 4. Wonderful logic there.
It doesn't matter. The main thing is you have something new to return to. Not the same old crap you left. The whole thing is about perception. Few people actually use it but it being there and a posibillity means something to a lot more people. And as mentioned alt payed for 3 months out of 6 is still 3 months payed more than zero.
